We’re thrilled to introduce you to one of our incredible doctors, Dr. Michael Gelb. A world-renowned TMJ (temporomandibular joint) and Sleep Specialist with practices in both New York City and White Plains, Dr. Gelb generously donates his time and expertise to provide treatment to children with facial birth deformities at the Little Baby Face Foundation.

Dr. Gelb is the co-author of Gasp!: Airway Health - The Hidden Path To Wellness and the co-founder of both the Foundation for Airway Health and the American Academy of Physiological Medicine and Dentistry. He received his D.D.S. degree from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and his M.S. from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.

Like the other wonderful Little Baby Face Foundation doctors we’ve recently posted about, Dr. Thomas Romo and Dr. George Ferzli, Dr. Gelb was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by his father.

“My father inspired me to help patients alleviate chronic pain complaints including headache, jaw and neck pain, as well as ear symptoms with no apparent pathology,” he explained. “When I discovered that the airway, breathing, and sleep were related to the structures of the head and neck and that I could stabilize and then grow the airway, the game changed.”

Dr. Gelb’s father invented the non surgical facelift by improving the height of the lower third of the face. Dr. Gelb took this medical technique to the next level through his Airway Centric® integrated therapy, which improves oxygenation and deep sleep. This therapy routinely helps patients with brain health and is a vital part of lowering inflammation while improving the oral microbiome and detecting high risk oral pathogens.

Dr. Gelb joined the Little Baby Face Foundation Medical Advisory Board in 2019. Dr. Romo, founder of the Little Baby Face Foundation, was the first physician to recognize the importance of the lower third of the face, and Dr. Gelb was instantly drawn to him and the Foundation’s mission.

“My background allows me to help children with asymmetry and issues with the upper and lower jaws. I wanted to give back, and I couldn't think of a more worthwhile group.”

Dr. Gelb’s most gratifying cases are working with children that are in pain or on medication for ADHD, anxiety, and depression, because that’s where he feels he can make the biggest impact. He is passionate about treating children so that they can grow and develop normally and live to their full potential. The treatment he provides to these children is transformational and life-changing.

We’re so thankful for Dr. Gelb’s generosity and expertise in helping us on our mission to provide treatment to children born with facial birth defects regardless of race, religion, or socio-economic status. We know so many families who feel the same. He truly makes a difference in his patients’ lives every day.
