We want to introduce you to Dr. Homere Moutran, one of our wonderful volunteer physicians and medical advisory board members at the Little Baby Face Foundation.
Dr. Moutran comes from a family of physicians, so naturally he aspired to become a doctor himself. Towards the end of his medical studies, while working in a hospital on rotation, Dr. Moutran realized that he was especially drawn to ENT (ear, nose, and throat) and pursued Otolaryngology & Facial Plastic Surgery as his specialty.
“Doing facial surgery has been my goal since early college days,” says Dr. Moutran. “Working on a full array of Otolaryngologic procedures that deal with voice, hearing, breathing, and sense of smell, make our specialty a noble one.”
Dr. Moutran trained under Dr. Thomas Romo III, founder and medical director of the Little Baby Face Foundation. Dr Moutran was inspired by Dr. Romo’s continuous drive to give back by providing pro bono treatment to children born with facial birth defects. It was then that Dr. Moutran became interested in also doing surgeries free of charge to help children in need.
“The level of care given is world class. All from donations, based on the hard work of a phenomenal team of volunteers and philanthropists.” Dr. Moutran says of the Little Baby Face Foundation. He has found it to be a rewarding and meaningful experience to be able to help so many children and their families, many of which would not have access to the level of care and expertise he can provide.
“The face is people's showcase, their first impression setter, and what they see in the mirror everyday,” he says.
We couldn’t agree more. At the Little Baby Face Foundation, we’ve seen firsthand over and over again how transforming childrens’ faces has the power to transform their lives, and we’ve made it our mission to help children with facial birth defects receive the quality treatment they deserve.
Not only does surgery help children find new self confidence, but it radically improves their quality of life. Many children born with facial birth deformities are impacted far beyond their physical appearance. They may have trouble breathing, speaking, eating, sleeping, or even being held by their parents. Treatment is medically necessary, but unfortunately, it’s not always accessible.
Dr. Moutran and all of our incredible physicians make the impossible possible by generously donating their time, expertise, skills, and resources to provide treatment to children with facial birth defects. We couldn’t be more grateful to have Dr. Moutran’s support.
