We are welcoming 2023 with overwhelming gratitude as we reflect on the past year and all we’ve been able to accomplish for so many children born with facial birth defects and their families.
Little Baby Face Foundation 2022 Events
We hosted several successful events, including the Cinque de Mai event in New York City sponsored by Wesbuilt. Dr. Thomas Romo III, founder and medical director of the Little Baby Face Foundation, was in attendance as were many other of our incredible medical board advisors and physicians, including Dr. Ferzli, Dr. Kohan, and Dr. Yick Lee with colleagues from CAMS Chinese American Medical Association.
Our annual golf outing was a blast! We had a wonderful time with all the generous donors who helped us to raise funds. Reena, a 12-year-old girl we’ve treated for venous malformation, attended the event, flying in all the way from the Philippines. We were grateful to have her there to share her story of hope.
Then, Cutera hosted their New York City Aesthetics Summit, where they presented the Little Baby Foundation with a donation of 7,500 dollars to provide free world-class medical treatment to children born with facial birth defects. Dr. Romo was there to accept their very generous donation.
We also held our annual Medical Advisory Board appreciation dinner, with Dr. Lee, Dr. Moutran, Dr. Horowitz, Dr. John Ho, Dr. Ferzli, Dr. Shafner, Dr. Shafer, Dr. Rockshar, Dr. Rakhna, Dr. Romo, and from the LBFF Board of directors, President Alan Mattone, Treasurer Don Moriarty, and Secretary John Campbell. Gracie (whose story you can read here) also attended. Gracie has an ulcerated hemangioma as well as anotia, and she has already begun her treatments at the Little Baby Face Foundation. Gracie’s treatment plan will require several surgeries and laser treatments, so she will be with us for a while. At our Medical Advisory Board appreciation dinner, we took the opportunity to ask Gracie to become our ambassador. She is a remarkable little girl with so much courage and spirit.
What 2022 Looked Like at the Little Baby Face Foundation
As far as the amount of children we were able to help this year, we are still returning to pre-Covid numbers. The pandemic has definitely been a curveball to the Foundation, but we are pleased to be seeing progress.
In 2022, 27 children were treated at the Little Baby Face Foundation, with 94 office visits and surgeries performed between them. 67% of the children were from the United States, and the remaining 33% were international.
We could never have accomplished this without the 329 generous donors, who donated more than $828,000 in 2022. We also couldn’t have done it without our 30+ surgeons and medical specialists who matched the cash donations with donated hours and hours of pro bono surgery and appointment time. Their generosity is truly heartwarming, and we are so grateful.
A big thank you to our founders, Dr. Thomas Romo and Diane Kiely Romo, our surgical coordinator, to all the physicians of the Little Baby Face Foundation Medical Advisory Board, to Northwell Health (specifically the teams at MEETH and Lenox Hill), to our partners at Ronald McDonald House, and to our Board of Directors. We are excited to see where 2023 takes us with your support, and we look forward to changing the lives and faces of many more children in 2023!
